About Us

Peterson Gallery is owned and operated by Andy Wilbur-Peterson. Andy is a member of the Skokomish Tribe and is a renowned artist.

"I owe my artistic career and suscess to the unsung heroes my elders, (my grampa's, grandma's, aunt's and uncle's, the ones that kept our culture and art alive and continued to produce from their hearts)". Andy's striking and distinctive style in prints, to painting and monumental pieces in wood has his work sought after both nationally and inter-nationally. An innovator with a strong personal style, he enjoys expressing both traditional to contemporary concepts . Andy has immersed himself in the study of his traditional art and culture, including pieces his great-grand-father had made. He says: "Salish art is finnally becoming known and understood by many people today, and there is still so much to left to uncover. Along with several other artists, I have dedicated myself to revive my traditional Salish art--and also helping the public to understand Salish style, vs. Northern and West Coast style." Along with his ability of vision, his understanding the art and ledgens left by his great-grand-father (Henry Allen) and also with his talents, it has led to many prestigious commissions and shows. In his twenty-plus-years carving career, Andy has participated in many shows and has taught many people, including his wife, father and daughters, plus numerous community members. It has been his dream to start a gallery on his reservation for many years.

His goals for his gallery are:

  • To carve what the creator inspires him to do
  • To support and to facilitate a place where master artists can come together and share their work with each other and the world
  • To enhance, encourage and motivate the next generation of artists to become masterful in their works by being inspired by their elders

The Peterson gallery is located on the southern end of the Hoods Canal, about 10 miles north of Shelton, just off Hwy 101, about one quarter mile north of Potlatch State Park. (JUST BEHIND LONGSHORE DRIVE-IN)
