Micah
McCarty, of Neah Bay, Washington, is a member of the Makah Nation, a
drum maker, and a woodcarver of traditional tribal imagery. Within the
last several years, McCarty has been involved with reviving the ancient
songs of the Makah people, as well as the imagery of his family.
Working with his father, who was
raised in a Makah speaking household, McCarty is learning the old
way of singing and making costumes for the dances that accompany
the songs. McCartys work has been part of the Royal British Columbia
Museums Out of the Mist Treasures of the Nuu-cha-nulth Chiefs
touring exhibition and he was a Master artist in the WSAC FolkArts Program
in 2000-2001.
